Where are you and where do you offer services?
I recently relocated to Burlington, VT and now offer in-person sessions here. I am still licensed in the States of Arizona and Texas and will continue to offer online services to its interested residents for the foreseeable time.
I’ve never been to therapy before. what should i expect?
You and I will take time to explore what difficulties you are experiencing across ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. Therapy will be a collaborative effort designed to empower you to undergo a process of understanding and acceptance of yourself and your circumstances. We’ll try not to take things too seriously along the way!
Does entering therapy mean there is something wrong with me?
Certainly not! In fact, I think the decision to enter therapy is one of sound judgment and resourcefulness. You are a product of all the things that have preceded you to this point, and it’s wise not to carry the heavy burden of assigning fault for what is. Should you not be fully appreciative of your life’s experience, let’s work together on addressing that. We all need help in a variety of ways from time to time, and reaching out to others is demonstrative of great strength and resolve.
How long are the sessions?
Therapy sessions are 45 minutes in duration. While this may seem brief, it yields greater efficiency, with both parties making the best use of the allotted time.
Do you accept my health insurance plan?
While I do not contract with health insurance companies, I am happy to provide services as an out-of-network provider. What this means is that I will cooperate in order to get you reimbursed for a percentage of the cost per session. Often times, health insurance companies require a psychiatric diagnosis and can impose limits on therapy sessions and duration, and not everyone who benefits from counseling is deserving of a medical records diagnosis or certain course of treatment.
How long does therapy last?
This varies widely. Some clients have chosen to remain in therapy with me well beyond the remittance of their bothersome symptoms that originally brought them to therapy. But beyond someone choosing to continue with maintenance sessions, I am not one to believe that therapy is necessarily a lengthy process. With brief-focused counseling, clients often report slight improvement within several sessions, and a number feel that their most problematic concerns are more manageable within months.
Is therapy difficult or uncomfortabLE?
In truth, yes, it can be, at times. But you need not find this to be a good reason not to pursue therapy. I want to provide you, though, with the most comfortable experience in recognizing the things that are keeping you from experiencing and accepting your genuine self. We’ll get you there safely, and you know, we’ll probably have some laughs and levity along much of the way.
